'Serial practitioner of terrorism', Jaishankar hits out at Pak PM at UNGA

External affairs minister S Jaishankar on Saturday slammed Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for “misrepresenting facts” at the United Nations General Assembly, calling Islamabad a “serial practitioner of terrorism.” Addressing the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Jaishankar said there could be no dilution in the global fight against terrorism and asserted India's right to defend itself against terror attacks. Directly referencing remarks made the previous day, without naming Pakistan, Jaishankar said that it raised arguments to "normalise terrorism" and affirmed India's right to self-defence. He conditioned any normalisation of ties on the cessation of terrorism.“Governments indulging in such practices must be held accountable. There must be no dilution in our zero tolerance approach towards terrorism,” Jaishankar said. He added that the financial aspects of terrorism, in particular, “should be exposed and should be countered.”

Jaishankar told world leaders that the case for reformed multilateralism is getting stronger as the inability of global institutions to maintain peace is threatening progress and retarding development.Jaishankar said the UN, which enters its ninth decade, was founded to maintain international peace and security and take effective collective action to that end.
