Jaishankar discusses Global, Regional Issues with EU & V4 leaders

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar discussed India-EU cooperation, multilateral issues and key global developments, including the situation in the Gulf, Ukraine, and the Indo-Pacific, with his European Union counterparts in New York.  Jaishankar is leading an Indian delegation for the 81st session of the UN General Assembly. “Appreciated meeting my European Union colleagues this afternoon in New York #UNGA81," he said in a social media post on Monday local time.
His engagements on Monday commenced with a meeting with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot. "Our regular meetings and telecons enable us to maintain the momentum of our Special Global Strategic Partnership," Jaishankar said in a social media post. "Regional and global issues, specifically the Ukraine & Gulf crisis were discussed. Also exchanged views on multilateral issues, including the reform of UN Security Council," he added.
After his meeting with Ecuador Foreign Minister Roberto Kury, Jaishankar said, "We spoke about strengthening our economic ties, including in energy & pharmaceuticals, mobility, training of personnel, development partnership and cooperation in multilateral fora, including the @UN." Following his meeting with Slovakia Foreign Minister Juraj Blanar, the external affairs minister said that besides discussing the bilateral agenda, they also touched upon ways to deepen our multilateral cooperation. Jaishankar also held a "great first meeting" with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Hungary Anita Orban.
Jaishankar said India and the four Visegrád Group (V4) countries (Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic) have agreed to deepen cooperation in political, economic, technology, defence and people-to-people ties. Jaishakar's comments following the first V4 and India Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Jaishankar said the gathering was a “new historic occasion” and announced plans for annual meetings of foreign ministers as well as an annual business forum. “Since India's relationship with the European Union itself is deepening, with the V4 we would take some special initiatives to create an annual business forum. As foreign ministers, we would meet annually—that was the consensus,” Jaishankar said.
