India, UAE reaffirm strategic partnership during G7 Summit meeting

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday held a bilateral meeting with UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Evian-les-Bains, France, where the two leaders reviewed the progress of the India-UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and exchanged views on regional developments in West Asia. The meeting, held on the margins of the summit, focused on strengthening cooperation across key sectors, including trade, investment, technology, energy and defence. The leaders also discussed ways to further deepen the strategic partnership between the two countries, which has witnessed significant growth in recent years.
In a post on X following the meeting, Prime Minister Modi described his interaction with the UAE President as "very good" and highlighted the close ties between the two nations."Had a very good meeting with my brother, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. We discussed India-UAE ties across sectors and ways to further energise our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership," Modi said.

The two leaders also held detailed discussions on the evolving situation in West Asia and stressed the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in resolving conflicts and ensuring regional stability.According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Prime Minister Modi underscored the need for "dialogue, diplomacy and respect for international law, sovereignty and territorial integrity" as essential pillars for achieving lasting peace, security and stability in the region. The two sides also emphasised the importance of maintaining free, safe and unimpeded navigation and commercial movement through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global energy and trade corridor.
The meeting comes amid heightened geopolitical attention on the region, following recent diplomatic efforts to ease tensions and restore stability after months of conflict that disrupted global energy markets and trade flows.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the two leaders reviewed measures to deepen the bilateral Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and exchanged views on peace, security and stability in West Asia. The leaders also assessed progress made since President Al Nahyan's visit to India in January and Prime Minister Modi's visit to the UAE in May this year. Cooperation in areas such as technology, energy, investment, defence and economic partnerships has expanded significantly during this period, according to the MEA.
Prime Minister Modi expressed gratitude to the UAE leadership for its continued support and welfare measures for the large Indian diaspora living in the Gulf nation. Modi thanked President Al Nahyan and the UAE government for their care and concern for the Indian community, which plays a vital role in strengthening people-to-people ties between the two countries. The meeting marked the third interaction between the two leaders in 2026, reflecting the growing depth of India-UAE relations and the high-level political engagement that has become a hallmark of the partnership.During the talks, Modi also extended an invitation to President Al Nahyan to attend the BRICS Summit, which India will host later this year.
