India, Indonesia seal 20 outcomes, including BrahMos Cooperation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's State Visit to Indonesia on Tuesday culminated in 20 major outcomes, including cooperation on the BrahMos missile system, defence, space, healthcare, critical minerals, artificial intelligence and agriculture, as India and Indonesia agreed to further deepen their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

According to media reports, the two countries announced 14 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and agreements, along with six key initiatives spanning strategic, economic, technological and cultural cooperation, following bilateral talks between PM Modi and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto at the Istana Merdeka in Jakarta.Addressing a joint press statement, PM Modi said the India-Indonesia partnership had entered a new phase of growth."In recent years, the relationship between India and Indonesia has acquired renewed energy, greater confidence, and deeper strategic depth. Our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, established in 2018, is reaching new heights today," he said, expressing confidence that the visit marked the beginning of a "golden new chapter" in bilateral ties.

Defence cooperation emerged as a major focus, with both sides agreeing to collaborate on the BrahMos missile system, an Air-to-Air Missile Cooperation Agreement, enhanced defence exchanges, disaster management and industrial collaboration. The two countries also expanded maritime cooperation, with their Coast Guards agreeing to strengthen maritime safety and security in the Indian Ocean while deepening collaboration in the blue economy, port development and maritime trade.
Space cooperation also received a significant boost with the extension of the framework agreement on the peaceful exploration and use of outer space. The two nations agreed to promote joint research, technology sharing and capacity building in the sector.

Technology and innovation featured prominently during the visit, with agreements covering telecommunications, research, artificial intelligence and Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI). PM Modi also announced that the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore will establish its first overseas campus at the Singhasari Special Economic Zone in Indonesia to benefit students across the ASEAN region.
In the healthcare sector, India and Indonesia signed agreements to strengthen pharmaceutical regulation and health workforce collaboration. PM Modi said the partnership would improve access to India's affordable medicines while supporting the capacity building of Indonesian healthcare professionals.To bolster food security, the two countries signed an agreement on agriculture and allied sectors, with India announcing the supply of 100 tonnes of DWR-162 wheat seeds to Indonesia and expanding cooperation in sustainable farming and agri-technology.The visit also produced key agreements aimed at strengthening supply chains for critical minerals and steel, including a strategic joint venture between the Steel Authority of India (SAIL) and PT Krakatau Steel to establish a stainless-steel slab manufacturing facility in Indonesia, along with cooperation on rare earth magnets.
Both countries also signed agreements on electoral cooperation, disaster management, maritime security, research and innovation, reflecting their commitment to broadening institutional collaboration.Among the major announcements, India will assist in the conservation and restoration of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Prambanan Temple Complex in Yogyakarta. The two nations also declared the centenary of Rabindranath Tagore's visit to Indonesia as the "Tagore-Dewantara Year of Cultural and Educational Diplomacy."
Highlighting growing people-to-people ties, PM Modi announced that India's Unified Payments Interface (UPI) will soon be integrated with Indonesia's payment system to facilitate easier business transactions and travel. Indonesia also unveiled the Indonesia Open Network (ION) based on India's Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) architecture and announced the deployment of an Indonesian Liaison Officer at the Information Fusion Centre–Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR).

On regional and global issues, PM Modi reaffirmed India's support for ASEAN Centrality, emphasising dialogue and diplomacy as the preferred means of resolving international challenges. Reiterating India's position on the Middle East, he expressed support for a Two-State Solution to the Palestine issue.The Prime Minister said the India-Indonesia partnership was entering a transformative phase, adding that the shared vision of Indonesia Emas and Viksit Bharat would pave the way for greater prosperity and cooperation between the two nations.
