External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar has said that India and Russia have expanded collaboration in science and technology, and the mobility of talents and skills has acquired greater salience in an uncertain and volatile global environment. Dr Jaishankar said this in his opening remarks welcoming the Russian delegation led by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov for the BRICS Foreign Ministers Meeting in New Delhi on Wednesday. He noted that in the last few years both nations have seen a steady and sustained growth in the bilateral partnership, with economic and energy dimensions becoming more pronounced. Dr Jaishankar said that India and Russia have a shared interest in strengthening multipolarity and political cooperation between the two countries is even more valuable. He said that the annual BRICS summit acts as a platform for the nations in taking forward and reviewing the special and privileged partnership, exchanging views on global developments.

Dr Jaishankar held a meeting with his South African counterpart Ronald Lamola on Wednesday, discussing various aspects of the strategic partnership and multilateral issues of mutual interest. Lamola thanked India for its efforts in promoting international discourse on topical and forward-looking issues by hosting the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting. He also expressed South Africa’s commitment to strengthening ties with India at the bilateral level.
