In Germany, six people were shot and killed at a youth welfare facility in northern city Stade on Monday. Police have detained two people from a car that was driving down a road with a busted tyre. Police called the incident a homicide with multiple victims in the town of Stade near the port city of Hamburg. The motive was not immediately clear. The Spiegel news outlet, citing information it obtained, said it was likely a personal rather than political or extremist matter.

Police initially reported a death toll of five adults, but later on Monday said it has risen to six. Five people died at the scene, while the sixth died in the hospital due to injuries sustained during the shooting. "Shots were fired near a youth center in the city center," German news agency DPA quoted a police spokesperson as saying. The facility includes temporary accommodation for pregnant women or young mothers with children.All those killed in the shooting incident were staff members at the youth center. Stade has about 50,000 inhabitants and is located west of Hamburg.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz also reacted to the shooting, calling the incident "shocking to the core." "Many people, who wanted to help and protect others, lost their lives or were injured," Merz posted on his X account, sending his condolences to the victims' families.
