Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is on an official visit to Singapore from October 9 to 11, 2026, to strengthen bilateral economic ties and explore investment opportunities through high-level meetings with Singapore’s leadership, business executives and global institutional investors.
During the visit, Sitharaman will meet Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong and Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan.The discussions will focus on key areas of the India-Singapore Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and advancing outcomes of the India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable (ISMR). The agenda includes trade and investment, digital financial connectivity, capital markets, taxation, semiconductors, advanced manufacturing, skill development and aviation,according to government agency.
Singapore is India’s largest source of foreign direct investment (FDI), with cumulative inflows of approximately $194.68 billion between April 2000 and March 2026. Singapore-based institutional investors, including GIC and Temasek, have significant investments across the Indian economy.As part of her engagements with the investment community, Sitharaman will participate in a roundtable with hedge fund and portfolio fund managers, alongside Government-to-Business (G2B) meetings involving leading investors, financial institutions and business leaders. The interactions will provide a platform to discuss India’s economic growth, investment opportunities and developments in the global financial landscape.
Sitharaman will also hold individual meetings with senior executives of major financial institutions, investment firms and healthcare companies. These include the chief executives of GIC, Temasek, DBS Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, British International Investment, IHH Healthcare, Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, B Capital and HPS Investment Partners.Her engagements will also include meetings with the chairperson of Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken, a director on the board of Mitsui & Co., and the executive chairman and founding partner of TPG.
Platforms such as the National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF) and GIFT City are expected to provide avenues for greater participation by Singaporean investors in India through investment funds and other financial vehicles.The Ministry of Finance, in coordination with relevant ministries and industry bodies, will facilitate connections between interested Singaporean investors and Indian companies, financial institutions and state governments to help advance identified investment opportunities.
