Egypt unveils new gas discovery in Western Desert

The Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has announced a new natural gas discovery in the Badr-15 area in the Western Desert. The field has been immediately added to the production map with a rate of 16 million cubic feet of gas per day. The ministry stated that the discovery is expected to add around 15 billion cubic feet of gas to the reserves, coming from the Lower Bahariya reservoir. The reservoir in the area is being re-evaluated to identify the best sites for drilling new wells in the future, it added.

Egyptian Petroleum Minister Karim Badawi said that 2026 will witness the drilling of 14 exploratory wells in the Mediterranean Sea, with targeted reserves of about 12 trillion cubic feet of gas.The minister added that domestic production of gas and petroleum had declined since 2021 due to reduced investment, but efforts to improve the investment climate have halted the decline and restored growth.
