Bangladesh:43 people arrested in attack on Hindu houses & temples

Bangladesh police have arrested 43 people involved in the attack on Hindu houses and for vandalising temples in Cumilla town on Wednesday. The police have also arrested the person who allegedly first put the video of desecration of the Holy Quran on the social media. The police is questioning a person named Fayez Uddin for his role in putting the inflammatory post on the social media, reports the local media. The police is on the lookout for other persons who are involved in the incidence of violence in Cumilla town on Wednesday.
In order to contain incidents of violence reported from several places in Bangladesh, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has been deployed in 22 districts of the country following attack on Hindu temple and houses. The attacks followed an incident in which Holy Quran was reportedly desecrated inside a temple by some miscreants in Cumilla town. Following the incident several temples in the Cumilla town and in a number of other towns were vandalised.Terming the incident as an “excuse to attack Hindus”, Taslima Nasreen, Bangladeshi author in a tweey, has urged the Sheikh Hasina government to ensure the safety of minority community members in the country.

Following the incident, the Bangladesh government has ordered a probe into the matter.Home Minister Asadazzuman Khan told media on Thursday that the people involved in the incident have been identified and they will be arrested without any delay..

Meanwhile, the West Bengal BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari has requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take urgent steps to provide relief to Hindus residing in Bangladesh in view of attacks on Durga Puja pandals and various temples in the neighbouring country. In a letter to PM Modi, the Opposition leader of the West Bengal Assembly said the notorious vandals are habituated to targeting the minority community in Bangladesh.
