British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has said that police are being deployed to synagogues across the country, after the deadly attack at a Jewish house of worship in Manchester on Yom Kippur, earlier Thursday. “I’m already able to say that additional police assets are being deployed to synagogues across the country, and we will do everything to keep our Jewish community safe,” Starmer says as he leaves a European political meeting in Copenhagen early to deal with the incident.
Earlier, two people have died in an attack at a synagogue in Manchester in northern England and a third person suspected to be the offender who was shot by police is also believed to have died, a police statement says. Three more people have been seriously injured in the attack, police say.
The attack took place on Yom Kippur, the Jewish Day of Atonement and the holiest day of the Jewish calendar.
