Talks with Iran will continue, Trump tells Netanyahu

The two leaders held closed-door talks on Wednesday that lasted three hours, marking their seventh meeting since Trump returned to office last year. Despite expectations of major announcements, Trump said no final decisions were made.
Netanyahu said following the meeting that he had stressed Israel’s security needs. The meeting was not followed by public statements or a press conference, with both Trump and Netanyahu preferring to put out brief statements. “It was a very good meeting, the tremendous relationship between our two Countries continues,” Trump posted afterward on social media. “There was nothing definitive reached other than I insisted that negotiations with Iran continue to see whether or not a Deal can be consummated.” In a short readout after the meeting, Netanyahu said the two sides “addressed negotiations with Iran, Gaza, and regional developments.” “The prime minister emphasized Israel’s security needs in the context of the negotiations, and the two agreed to maintain close coordination and ongoing communication,” said Netanyahu’s Office.
Netanyahu had been expected to press Trump to widen talks with Iran beyond its nuclear programme to include limits on ballistic missiles and Tehran's regional activities. While stressing Israel's security concerns, Netanyahu gave no indication that Trump had accepted those demands. Israeli officials have warned that a narrow nuclear agreement would fail to curb Iran's broader military influence.
