In West Bengal, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari's personal assistant was shot dead by unidentified assailants in North 24 Parganas district on Wednesday evening, party sources said. The incident took place at Doharia in Madhyamgram area, where Chandranath Rath, who served as the executive assistant to the leader of opposition in the state assembly, was attacked on a public road, they said. He sustained critical injuries in the firing and was rushed to a private hospital, where doctors declared him dead, they added.
According to preliminary information, Rath was shot at from a close range by miscreants, who fled the scene immediately after carrying out the attack. "We have been preaching peace but TMC has made the biggest blunder," newly elected BJP MLA Tarunjyoti Tewari said. Suvendu Adhikari says, "This is a pre-planned murder, and this is what DGP said. A recce was done for 2-3 days and a murdered was fully planned. "This is the result of 15 years of Maha-Jungle Raj... BJP will start the cleansing work of the goons here," he said.

News of the incident spread quickly, prompting the deployment of a large police contingent in the area amid rising tension. The incident sent shock waves through the state's political circles. No arrests had been made till the filing of this report.
In another incident, BJP worker was shot at, allegedly by TMC-sheltered miscreants, in the Basirhat area of North 24 Parganas district on Wednesday, saffron party sources claimed. The victim, Rohit Roy, was moved to the Basirhat state-run hospital, with bullet injuries in his abdominal area, where his condition was stated to be critical but stable. In a video footage circulated by the party’s media cell, Roy was heard alleging he was shot by three miscreants from among a group of 8-10 TMC workers when he, along with a few others, were putting up BJP flags in his locality.
