Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar's son, Bhageerath, was arrested on Saturday night in a POCSO case registered against him, and later remanded to judicial custody by a magistrate. In a release issued after midnight, the Cyberabad Commissioner of Police announced that various teams were dispatched to Karimnagar, Delhi, and other locations to apprehend Bageerath.The Telangana High Court had on Friday night refused to give Bhageerath interim protection from arrest.
In a statement, Bandi Sanjay Kumar said, "In connection with the allegations made against his son and out of respect for the law, he handed Bhageerath over through advocates for police investigation. The Union Minister said that everyone is equal before the law, whether it is his son or an ordinary citizen, and added that everyone must abide by the law. Earlier, the BJP leader from Telangana insisted his family was being targeted and maligned.Bandi Sanjay Kumar said his son has repeatedly maintained that he committed no wrongdoing. He said they initially intended to hand him over to the police immediately after the complaint was lodged.
Earlier in the day, the Telangana police had issued a Look Out Circular (LoC) against Bhageerath and conducted searches at his father’s home in Karimnagar, his relative’s residence in Hyderabad’s Banjara Hills, and his friends’ homes in Yousufguda. Bhageerath is accused of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old between October and December 2025. The two had allegedly met through mutual friends in June 2025.
In a complaint lodged at the Petbasheerabad police station on May 8, the girl’s mother alleged that Bhageerath subjected her to repeated sexual abuse and emotional blackmail. According to the complaint, he allegedly isolated her and controlled her educational career decisions.
