Tamil Nadu polls: DMK forms committee for seat-sharing talks

With the Assembly elections approaching, the ruling DMK on Saturday announced the formation of a seven-member seat-sharing committee under senior leader T. R. Baalu to hold talks with its allies. The move comes soon after the conclusion of the Tamil Nadu Assembly session on February 20, signalling the party’s formal entry into alliance negotiations ahead of the polls. The DMK has simultaneously been intensifying its grassroots preparations, focusing on training booth committee members and carrying out a membership drive across the state.
Baalu, who serves as the party’s treasurer, will head the newly constituted panel. The committee includes key office-bearers and senior functionaries tasked with steering discussions and finalising seat allocations with alliance partners.Among the members are DMK principal secretary K. N. Nehru; deputy general secretaries Tiruchi Siva and A. Raja; organisation secretary R. S. Bharathi; and high-level executive committee members E. V. Velu and M. R. K. Panneerselvam.Party sources indicated that the panel will soon initiate discussions with existing allies to ensure a smooth and timely finalisation of seat-sharing arrangements. The DMK-led alliance is expected to seek a coordinated strategy to retain power, with negotiations likely to focus on balancing regional strengths and coalition arithmetic.
