SP protest over Ram temple donation theft disrupts UP Assembly

In UP,Samajwadi Party legislators on Tuesday staged a protest in the Assembly premises for the second consecutive day, raising slogans against the BJP government over alleged donation theft at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, paper leaks and other issues. Carrying banners and placards, SP members demonstrated in the Vidhan Bhavan premises before the House proceedings. As soon as the House met at 11 am, Leader of Opposition Mata Prasad Pandey demanded a discussion on the alleged theft of donations, describing it as a matter of faith. When Speaker Satish Mahana did not allow the discussion, Samajwadi Party members entered the Well and began raising slogans against the BJP government.
Senior SP leader and former Uttar Pradesh cabinet minister Shivpal Singh Yadav alleged that the state government was bringing a supplementary budget to conceal its failures despite being unable to utilise a substantial portion of the original budget. “The government has not been able to spend even 30 per cent of the original budget so far, yet it is bringing a supplementary budget to hide its failures,” Yadav told reporters.He asserted that the Samajwadi Party would “wipe out” the Bharatiya Janata Party in Uttar Pradesh.
Amid the uproar, State Finance Minister Suresh Khanna presented the first supplementary budget of Rs59,01,954.10 crore for the financial year 2026-27 after the question hour was suspended. The House was adjourned for over an hour due to the opposition’s pandemonium in the well since morning.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, while intervening in the proceedings, accused opposition members of insulting the House and said their actions should be condemned. “SP members do not believe in the Constitution or democracy and are wasting public money,” he said. “They have hurt the sentiments of 24 crore people of the state. During the advisory committee meeting, the opposition had assured cooperation, so why are they behaving this way now?” the Chief Minister said, adding that the government was ready for any discussion or debate, provided it was conducted according to parliamentary norms.
