Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday participated in the ‘Paschimbanga Divas’ ,West Bengal Day celebrations at Tarakeswar in Hooghly district and released the 23rd instalment of the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme worth Rs 18,880 crore. The latest instalment will benefit more than 9.44 crore farmers across the country, providing financial support under the government’s flagship agriculture scheme.

The Prime Minister attended the state day celebration along with West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, ministers, MLAs, government officials and members of the public. During the event, he also launched, dedicated and laid foundation stones for several development projects across sectors including railways, agriculture, rural development, fisheries and animal husbandry.According to agency reports, the initiatives launched during the programme include the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), Agri Stack, National Mission on Natural Farming and Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana.To expand the benefits of the country’s largest crop insurance scheme to farmers in West Bengal, Modi launched PMFBY in the state. The scheme aims to provide insurance coverage to nearly 50 lakh farmers across around 14 lakh hectares of agricultural land during 2026-27.
The crop insurance initiative is expected to cover crops with an estimated insured value of around Rs 28,140 crore while supporting farmers through significant premium subsidies.The Prime Minister also dedicated and laid the foundation stones for key railway projects worth around Rs 590 crore aimed at improving connectivity and infrastructure in the state.In addition, Modi inaugurated 49 road infrastructure projects developed under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY-III). The projects cover more than 315 km of roads across various districts of West Bengal, strengthening rural connectivity and supporting economic development.
