PM Modi inaugurates Rs 5,000-Crore Bhogapuram Airport in Andhra

In Andhra Pradesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the Rs 5,000-crore Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram in Vizianagaram district and unveiled infrastructure projects worth nearly Rs 18,000 crore, marking a major boost to the state's connectivity, manufacturing and renewable energy sectors.Developed by GMR Airports, the greenfield airport has been designed to handle six million passengers annually in its first phase, with expansion capacity of up to 40 million passengers a year.

The airport features artificial intelligence-enabled systems, Building Information Modelling (BIM), Airside 4.0 technology, an Airport Predictive Operations Centre and biometric passenger processing to enhance operational efficiency and passenger experience.The terminal's architecture reflects Andhra Pradesh's cultural heritage, drawing inspiration from traditional Chuttilu cottages and the scenic landscape of the Araku Valley.After inaugurating the airport terminal, Modi inspected the facility along with Andhra Pradesh Governor S Abdul Nazeer and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.
Later in the day, the Prime Minister is scheduled to address a public meeting, where more than 13,500 tribal women and students are expected to welcome him with a traditional Dhimsa dance performance,according to agency reports.During the visit, Modi will also lay the foundation stone for Andhra Pradesh's first semiconductor manufacturing facility under the India Semiconductor Mission. The Rs 460-crore project at Visakhapatnam, being developed by ASIP Technologies Pvt Ltd in partnership with South Korea's APACT, is expected to manufacture around 96 million semiconductor chips annually.He is also scheduled to launch and lay the foundation stone for power transmission projects, including the Rs 5,550-crore Kurnool-IV Renewable Energy Zone Phase-I transmission system and other transmission schemes worth over Rs 4,300 crore aimed at integrating renewable energy into the national grid.
Additionally, the Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for National Highway projects worth more than Rs 1,880 crore, including the Recherla-Guruvaygudem section of NH-365 BG and a high-level bridge at Lingasamudram on the Penchalakona-Yerpedu section of NH-565.According to official statements, these road projects are expected to improve regional connectivity, ease traffic congestion, enhance road safety and reduce travel time between Visakhapatnam and Hyderabad, while supporting economic growth across Andhra Pradesh.
