Lalu Yadav's daughter Rohini quits politics, severs ties with family

In Bihar, RJD Chief Lalu Yadav's daughter Rohini Acharya has said she is disowning her family and quitting politics. She alleged that Tejashwi Yadav's aide Sanjay Yadav and her husband Rameez Alam had some role to play behind her taking this step. "I’m quitting politics, and I’m disowning my family. This is what Sanjay Yadav and Rameez had asked me to do, and I’m taking all the blame," Acharya posted on X. This comes just a day after the RJD-led Mahagathbandhan suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of the JD(U)-BJP-led NDA in the Bihar polls. Lalu Yadav had earlier expelled his elder son, Tej Pratap Yadav, from the party and the family over a social media post.

Acharya indicated that she had been asked to do so by senior RJD leader Sanjay Yadav, who is a close aide of Tejashwi Yadav. Acharya, who had donated a kidney to Lalu Yadav in 2022, also appeared to take the blame for something, though it was not clear whether she was referring to the Bihar election defeat or something else. Rohini Acharya, a doctor by profession, is a former member of the Lalu Yadav-led RJD. She had contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Bihar's Saran constituency, but lost to the BJP's Rajiv Pratap Rudy by quite a margin.

Rohini Acharya's decisive move was in the making months before the Bihar polls, when she unfollowed the party's, Lalu Yadav's as well as brother Tejashwi Yadav's X handles. Resentment toward Sanjay is growing in the Lalu Yadav family, with many blaming him for interference in RJD’s ticket distribution and internal decisions.
