In Keralam, eight people were killed in a tragic road accident in Thrissur district, police said on Saturday. The accident occurred around 11.40 pm on Friday at Panambikkunnu in Kaipamangalam near Thrissur. According to police, the car carrying the youths collided with a lorry parked on the highway. All eight people in the car died on the spot.The car was reportedly travelling from the Guruvayur side towards Kodungallur.
The car, a seven-seater with Tamil Nadu registration, is believed to have been carrying students from Tamil Nadu. Police recovered an ID card belonging to a student of PSNA College of Engineering in Dindigul from the accident site. The lorry it struck was reportedly parked illegally in the same lane on a stretch of highway where construction work was underway. Local residents, fire and rescue personnel, and police carried out rescue operation. Eyewitnesses said the impact was so severe that the car was left badly mangled and the officials were forced to cut the vehicle to rescue those trapped inside. Police verifying the identities of all those killed and are investigating the circumstances that led to the crash.
