In Mizoram, three central govt officials, including 2 IIS officers, were killed and another person injured when their vehicle plunged into a deep gorge near Sateek village, around 30 km south of Aizawl, on Thursday evening. The accident occurred when the four were returning to Aizawl from Sialsuk village in Aizawl district. The officials were identified as Dr Engam Pame, additional director general of Press Information Bureau’s regional office in Imphal; Nampibou Marinmai, who served as PRO, defence, at DPR HQ and director, DD News Mizoram; and H Lianvela, a multitasking staff member of Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Aizawl. The driver, Gojendro Dey of the CBC, Aizawl, was injured. They were taken to Zoram Medical College and Hospital in Falkawn village where three of them were declared dead. Officials said, the accident occurred when the victims were returning to Aizawl after visiting the tourist site Sialsuk, located about 65 km from the state capital. The driver of the vehicle was seriously injured in the accident.
Police personnel and Young Mizo Association (YMA) volunteers were engaged in rescue operations at the site and in retrieving the bodies.
