Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said Governor Arif Mohammed Khan stepping out of his vehicle was against security protocols and he should not have done that. Vijayan also said that Governor Khan has been repeatedly taking a stand contrary to the democratic principles. The Chief Minister, at a press conference in Thiruananthpuram on Saturday, also termed as "strange" the handing over of the Governor's security to the CRPF and said that Khan now was part of a group that till now comprised some RSS workers who enjoy the special protection provided by the Centre. The Chief Minister said that there would be such protests against people in power, and they should observe "decorum" while reacting to such protests.
"Has Kerala or India ever seen a person holding a high position behaving like this?" Vijayan said. He called the Governor's decision to read only the last paragraph of the policy address in the Assembly as "insult to the state and the Constitution"."He has no time to read the policy address, but has one and half hours to stage a sit-in protest on the roadside," he said.
The Kerala governor and the Left government in the state have been indulging in a war of words over several issues, including the functioning of universities in the state. Earlier in the day, the governor also accused the Kerala CM of “promoting lawlessness” in the state.
