Indore: 8 killed in house fire after explosion at EV charging point

In Madhya Pradesh, eight members of a family were killed when a fire broke out in a three-storey house after an explosion at an Electric Vehicle (EV) charging point outside the building in Indore early on Wednesday, officials said. The deceased included two minor children and three women. They were identified as Tanmay (6), Rashi Sethia (12), Simran (30), Tinu (35), Suman Sethia (60), Vijay Sethia (65), Chhotu Sethia (22) and Manoj (65). The three survivors--Saurabh Pugalia, Ashish Pugalia, and Harshit Pugalia--were hospitalised with severe burns. They were rescued by neighbours who broke through the rear grill and brought them down using a ladder.

Police Commissioner Santosh Singh, who was at the scene, said the fire was intense and had started to engulf the nearby buildings as well."It is suspected that a short circuit occurred while an electric car parked on the ground floor was being charged, causing the vehicle to catch fire. The flames subsequently spread to the building, triggering blasts in the LPG gas cylinders kept inside the house; this created a terrifying situation, leaving the occupants with no opportunity to escape," Singh said.
Alarmed by the incident, the State Pradesh government announced a detailed investigation into it by a committee of experts and the framing of a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for EV charging.
