Foreign delegates enjoy Malwa folk traditions at BRICS meet

The second day of the BRICS Agriculture Working Group Meeting offered foreign delegates a break from conference rooms and policy discussions as they stepped into the cultural heart of Indore.Delegates from 20 countries participating in the BRICS Agriculture Working Group took part in a guided heritage walk at the iconic Rajwada Palace in Indore. Local historian Zafar Ansari walked the international guests through the Holkar-era structure, sharing stories of Indore's historic evolution.From the old city, the delegation moved to the Dakkhanwala area and the Rural Haat, where the focus shifted from history to livelihoods. The welcome was distinctly Malwa. Turbans were tied, folk music filled the venue and tribal artists took centre stage.

The dyanamic culture, traditional arts and dance forms continued to remain the centre point of the event in the Malwa region, showcasing the heart of India's culture.Several soon joined the performers, clapping along to the rhythm and trying out a some dance steps of their own.Participants got a closer look at products closely associated to different districts of Madhya Pradesh at the marketplace. Stalls displayed banana based products from Burhanpur, Chinnor rice from Balaghat, mangoes from Rewa and crops grown in the tribal belt of Jhabua.Majority of guests showed keen interest in local items especially mango stall(Sundari grown in Rewa MP),spoke appreciatively about its taste and aroma.

Handloom products also attracted attention, particularly Chanderi, Maheshwari and Kosa silk fabrics. Many visitors spent time interacting with women self help groups and local entrepreneurs showcasing organic honey, herbal products and dairy items.

The cultural programme threw light on the cultural depth and architectural heritage of Madhya Pradesh, while the BRICS platform discussions continued.earleir,India and Russia held bilateral talks to expand cooperation in agricultural trade, research and food security.
According to sources the third day session( 11 June) will convene to lay the broader framework on critical issues related to agriculture and food security.The BRICS Agriculture Ministers' Ministerial meeting scheduled on June 12 and 13, will dwell on pertinent issues (global challenges) including women and small farmers, climate-resilient agriculture, international trade, supply chain resilience and the integration of artificial intelligence and robotics.
