DMK unveils ‘Chennai Super-6’ manifesto ahead of Tamil Nadu polls

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK president M K Stalin released the party's Chennai manifesto on Sunday at the Anna Arivalayam headquarters, ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections scheduled for April 23, 2026.Unveiling the ‘Chennai Super-6’ document at Anna Arivalayam, Stalin said the initiatives are designed to address urban challenges while positioning Chennai as a hub for infrastructure, culture, and technology.

The manifesto places a strong emphasis on upgrading community infrastructure. The party has promised improved facilities in Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board apartments through women-led associations, backed by government funding. Plans also include installation of RO water systems in areas lacking Metro water supply, time-bound water distribution for Metro households, and high-intensity street lighting across neighbourhoods. Additionally, the DMK has proposed developing a world-class cultural landmark to host global arts, music, and literary events.
Mobility and urban transport form another key pillar of the plan. The party has pledged to introduce 1,000 new mini-buses to enhance last-mile connectivity, linking interior streets with major transit points such as bus stops, Metro stations, and railway hubs. An AI-powered traffic management system is also proposed to ease congestion and reduce travel time by up to 25%.On infrastructure, the manifesto commits to completing 10 major city projects by 2027. It also outlines timelines for finishing stormwater drainage and sewerage works within the same period, while Metro rail expansion is targeted for completion by 2028. The DMK further plans to roll out “complete streets” by 2029, featuring wider pedestrian pathways, shaded avenues, and accessible public amenities.
Addressing civic concerns, the party has proposed a humane and scientific approach to managing the stray dog population. This includes a threefold increase in veterinarians and dog catchers under the Animal Birth Control programme, along with expanded shelters in collaboration with NGOs.
A significant focus has also been placed on emerging technologies and employment generation. The manifesto proposes establishing a global centre of excellence in sectors such as artificial intelligence, animation, visual effects, and gaming. The planned immersive technology hub, with an investment of Rs10,000 crore, is expected to generate around 20,000 high-value jobs by 2030.Under its “Global Talent Gateway” initiative, the DMK has pledged to build world-class infrastructure, strengthen skill development programs, and create high-income employment opportunities to attract global talent.
The manifesto release comes amid intensified political rhetoric in the state. A day earlier, Stalin cautioned voters against supporting the NDA alliance, alleging that the Bharatiya Janata Party and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam had hampered industrial growth in the region. Speaking at a rally in Tiruppur, he asserted that votes for the NDA could hinder Tamil Nadu’s development trajectory. With the Chennai-centric blueprint, the DMK is seeking to consolidate urban support by promising targeted, time-bound development in one of India’s most critical metropolitan regions.
