Congress indulging in anti-national activities:PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday launched a scathing attack on the Congress, accusing the party of engaging in "anti-national" activities and helping illegal Bagladeshi immigrants to settle in the state. Addressing a public rally after unveiling a Rs 10,601-crore fertiliser plant at Namrup in Assam’s Dibrugarh, Modi also alleged that the Congress did not make any effort to modernise the old plant here, and find solutions to problems faced by farmers.Modi said, in 2014, only 225 lakh metric tonnes of urea was produced nationwide and after the hard work of the last 10-11 years, this production has risen to around 306 lakh metric tonne.

PM Modi also said , “When our government conferred the Bharat Ratna on Bhupen Da, the Congress openly opposed it. Their leaders mocked the decision, saying Modi was giving the Bharat Ratna to someone who sings and dances. Congress has always disrespected Assam and its culture. It was the Congress government that denied land rights to tea community workers, while the BJP government granted them rights and a life of dignity. I am a 'chai wala' - if not me, then who will do this?”

The Namrup project is aimed at strengthening fertiliser production and supporting agricultural growth in the region. The plant will have an annual production capacity of 12.7 lakh metric tonnes of urea. in addition to catering to Assam’s fertiliser needs, the plant will serve neighbouring states, reduce dependence on fertiliser imports, generate substantial employment opportunities, and act as a catalyst for industrial development in the region.
