19 Bangladeshis among 511 arrested in Uttarakhand under Op Kalnemi

A total of 511 people, including 19 Bangladeshis, have been arrested across three districts of Uttarakhand under ‘Operation Kalnemi’, officials said on Friday.Operation Kalnemi is a statewide campaign launched by the Uttarakhand government in July 2025 to identify and take action against individuals allegedly involved in illegal activities such as hypocrisy and fraud under the guise of religion and faith.According to a government statement, more than 4,800 people have been verified so far in Haridwar, Dehradun and Udham Singh Nagar districts as part of the drive. Of these, 511 have been arrested.The statement said that those arrested include 19 Bangladeshis who were illegally residing in the state. Ten of them have already been sent back to the neighbouring country, while legal action is underway against the remaining nine.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said the campaign is not targeted at any particular community, but is aimed at safeguarding law and order and preserving the dignity of ‘Devbhoomi’.He further clarified that while faith will always be respected, crime, hypocrisy and fraud carried out in its name will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
