13 killed in two road accidents

At least 13 people were killed in two road accidents. In Maharashtra, eight people have died and over 20 have been injured in a strange accident that took place near the Navale bridge on the Pune-Bengaluru highway, where, two containers collided with each other, causing the trucks to catch fire, after which the speeding container hit several vehicles. The bizarre accident occurred at Navale Bridge on Thursday evening. It is learnt that a family of five stuck inside the car, and three other persons have died in the tragic incident. Responding to the horrific incident, the fire tenders rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control.The trailer truck dragged a car for several metres and halted after crashing into another truck. Both the trucks and the car stuck between them caught fire. Five passengers of the car — two men, two women and a three-year-old girl — and the driver and cleaner of the trailer truck were charred to death. The deceased were identified as Swati Santosh Navalkar (37), her father Dattatreya Dabhade (58), mother Shanta Dabhade (54), all from the city's Dhayari Phata area, their family friend's daughter Mokshita Reddy (3) of Chikhali and the car driver Dhananjay Koli (30), originally from Kolhapur and staying in the city's Chikhali area.

In Madhya Pradesh, five persons were killed after a speeding car veered out of control, crashed through the barrier on an expressway, and fell into a ditch in Ratlam district on Friday, police said. The accident occurred in the morning on the eight-lane Delhi-Mumbai Expressway in the Rawti police station area, about 30 km from the district headquarters. "The car was heading towards Mumbai from Delhi. The vehicle broke the expressway barrier after the driver lost control and plunged into a ditch," police said.

Bodies were retrieved from the ditch and sent for post-mortem, and a detailed investigation is underway, it added.
