India win gold medal in women's team recurve Archery

India’s women’s recurve archery team on Friday created history by winning its maiden Asian Games gold medal. The trio of Ankita Bhakat, Kirti Sharma and Kumkum Mohod defeated world champions South Korea 5-3 in a thrilling final. India won silver in men’s recurve archery team event. The Men’s team, comprising of Dhiraj Bommadevara, Yashdeep Sanjay Bhoge and Neeraj Chauhan, settled for silver after loosing 1-5 to South Korea in the final.

India also secured a silver medal in the mixed recurve team archery event. The Indian duo of Kumkum Mohod and Dhiraj Bommadevara finished runners-up after losing 3-5 to China in a closely contested final. India also won a bronze medal in Sepaktakraw at the Asian Games. The Indian men’s quadrant team lost 0-2 to Japan in the semi-final to secure the bronze medal.
In sailing, Nethra Kumanan won the bronze medal in the women’s dinghy event. The 29-year-old Indian sailor finished third with overall 14 points.Nethra recovered strongly in the second and final race of the finals after a difficult opening race to finish on the podium.

On Thursday, Harshita Tomar and Shital Verma secured bronze in the women’s skiff event, further adding to India’s medal tally at the Games. With these performances, India climbed to sixth position in the overall medal standings. The country’s medal tally rose to 72 medals, comprising 12 gold, 25 silver and 35 bronze.
