Amid the ongoing rift in the Punjab Congress unit, the AICC called a meeting of the state’s Congress Legislative Party on Saturday evening. It is said that the AICC has received a representation from a large number of MLAs from the Congress party, requesting to immediately convene a meeting of the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) of Punjab. The Congress, in a late night tweet, announced the emergency meeting at 5 PM on Satuday. Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh has reportedly called a meeting of Congress legislators at 2pm ahead of a Congress legislature party (CLP) meeting scheduled to be held later in the day. Both goups are reportedly busy in their show of strength.
Meanwhile , political activitieas are high in Chandigarh. Punjab Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu was seen busy in the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee office for the meeting.Party’s state in-charge Harish Rawat, Congress leader Ajay Maken and Harish Chaudhary will also be present in the meeting. Former state Congress president Sunil Jakhar put out a cryptic tweet over the issue. “Kudos to Sh @RahulGandhi for adopting Alexandrian solution to this punjabi version of Gordian knot. Surprisingly, this bold leadership decision to resolve Punjab Congress imbroglio has not only enthralled congress workers but has sent shudders down the spines of Akalis.”
Sources do not ruled out the change of leadership in Punjab. The names of three leaders are in circulation, say sources, as possible replacements in case of a change - Sunil Jakhar, former Punjab Congress chief Pratap Singh Bajwa and Beant Singh's grandson and MP Ravneet Singh Bittu.
