Sushmita Dev left the Congress party on Monday morning and joined the TMC in the after noon , the same day. Ms Dev met with senior Trinamool leaders including Mamata Banerjee's nephew Abhishek Banerjee and Derek O'Brien before formally joining the party. “Will give it all I have got…,” she tweeted, thanking Mamata Banerjee
Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala told reporters in New Delhi that “I tried speaking with Sushmita Dev, her phone was off She was a dedicated Congress worker and perhaps is, even today. Congress President Sonia Gandhi has not received any letter from her. She's mature enough to take her decisions, I can't comment until I speak with her.” Senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal called Ms Dev's exit from the party an unfortunate incidence. Her resignation drew a stinging, public attack on the party's leadership."The party moves on with Eyes Wide Shut," wrote the former Union Minister in a post on Twitter.

Some opposition leaders suggested that a reboot of the Congress is necessary and that could only happen if the party was "freed from the clutches of the Gandhis' leadership".
