OBC quota will remain in Maharashtra,CM Thakerey

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday put it on record that the state’s MVA Government is committed to provide reservation to Marathas without disturbing OBC quota. Addressing the state legislative assembly, Thackeray said the government has appointed a strong legal team which holds constant discussion with concerned ministers and Maratha leaders to put forth a strong case before the Supreme Court. He added that the OBC community must not fear as the Marathas will get reservation under the prescribed Socially and Educationally Backward Class and not under the OBC quota.

It may be recalled that the Supreme Court has imposed an interim stay on implementation of Maratha reservation as it continues to hear a plea, challenging its validity. Justifying the short duration of the session, the Chief Minister said the danger posed by coronavirus still remains high and the state has no clue about when and how the vaccination process will begin.Replying to Leader of Opposition, Devendra Fadnavis’ jibe about shifting the metro carshed from Aarey to Kanjurmarg, Thackeray reiterated that the land belongs to Maharashtra and since the matter is subjudice, the government will make all efforts to reclaim the land to build the carshed. The Chief Minister further proposed to launch a scheme for conservation of ancient temples and forts and asked all legislators to try and adopt a temple so that the state’s rich culture and history can be preserved.
