JD(U) on Sunday raised its third demand within a month on its alliance partner by asking for an NDA coordination committee at the state and central levels to “discuss several issues we differ on”. The party also clarified that Nitish Kumar is not in the race for the post of the prime minister though he has all the qualities required to become one. After the party''s national council meeting in Patna, JD(U) General Secretary and spokesperson K C Tyagi told reporters that Nitish Kumar is not a candidate for the post of the prime minister. The JD(U) is the most trusted member of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the leader of the alliance. But he (Kumar) certainly is a PM material.
We will be happy if a similar coordination committee is formed again at the central and state levels for smooth functioning of the government and to put a stop to unwarranted comments made by leaders of alliance partners,” Tyagi said. To a question, he said that if there is an alliance with the BJP, then Janata Dal (United) will contest elections in all five states. However, if there is no alliance with the BJP, then the party will contest elections on its own in Uttar Pradesh and Manipu in 2022. The party had not contested the UP assembly elections in 2017. JD(U) had, earlier put pressure on BJP by seeking an enquiry in the Pegasus issue and teamed up with rival RJD to demand a cast cencus.
