MP: Local body polls likely to announce soon

In Madhya Pradesh, reservation exercise has been completed for the post of Mayors and chiefs of other local body. Now, on the basis of rotation,16 Municipal Corporations, 99 Municipalities and 292 Municipal Council posts were reserved for various catagories. Capital Bhopal will have a woman  Mayor from OBC while the post of Mayor of Indore Municipal Corporation has been de-reserved.  In the last election,this post was reserved for OBC women.  Apart from this,Gwalior and Jabalpur Mayor from general catagory.This time 8 out of 16 municipal corporations will be held by women.

 These will be 16 municipal mayors:-

 Scheduled Castes: Morena and Ujjain (Morena reserved for women)

 Scheduled Caste: Chhindwara. 

 OBC: Bhopal and Khandwa, (reserved for women), Satna and Ratlam (free).

 General: Sagar, Burhanpur, Dewas and Katni and Gwalior (general women's reserve).

 General: Indore, Jabalpur, Rewa and Singroli (unreserved).

 53 Municipality for general category-

 Free for general category - Sarangpur, Seoni-Malwa, Begumganj, Tikamgarh, Naogaon, Porsa, Ashoknagar, Dongar-Parasia, Sihora, Kotma, Pasan, Sidhi, Badnagar, Ganjbasoda, Narsingarh, Sihor, Pithampur, Barwah, Narsinghpur, Sendhwa,  Gadarwara, Anuppur, Agar, Shajapur, Umaria, Damoh and Khachrod.

 Reserved for general woman - Betul, Vidisha, Rajgarh, Pipariya, Gadhakota, Panna, Khargone, Balaghat, Nainpur, Dhanpuri, Mahidpur, Shivpuri, Berasia, Multai, Deori, Datia, Guna, Varasivani, Chaurai, Sausar, Amarwara, Kareli,  Neemuch, Ambah, Mandideep, Shujalpur.

 25 posts have been reserved for OBCs, out of which Sabalgarh, Dhara, Ashta, Raisen, Sironj, Hoshangabad, Chhatarpur, Shahdol, Panna, Radhaugarh, Mandsaur, Junnardeo, Manavar, Maihar, Sanawad, Sheopur Kalan, Seoni, Mandla, Biwara  , Rehli, Padhurna, Itarsi, Javra and Nepanagar Municipality have been reserved for OBCs.

 Between 1983 to 1999, the mayor was elected by the councilor.  After that, the government was changed and the Mayor was directly elected by the public.  The Kamal Nath government again made changes in 2018-19 over the mayoral election.  Notification for holding elections was issued back by councilors.  In the year 1999-2000, Vibha Patel became the first Mayor who was elected by the public. Late,three other mayors- Sunil Sood, Krishna Gaur and current Mayor Alok Sharmaalso won the elections.
