Janta Dal, United leader and MP Harivansh Singh will continue as Deputy Chairman, Rajya Sabha(Upper House). Harivansh was elected as the deputy chairperson of the Rajya Sabha for a second term. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Harivansh Singh, saying "outstanding umpire who belongs to all sides of the aisle" and added that Harivansh was an honest journalist and he has great respect for his journalism. "His unbiased role in the Parliament strengthens our democracy," PM Modi said.
“The House is being run in very difficult circumstances due to corona. But the House is still running and we have a duty to fulfil... I am sure that we will all remain vigilant and maintain all protocols to discharge our responsibility,” the PM said
Congress' Ghulam Nabi Azad, Derek O' Brian of the TMC and SP's Ram Gopal Yadav congractulated JD(U) MP Harivansh Singh for his election as deputy chairman of the Rajya Sabha. Beating RJD's Manoj Jha, Harivansh Singh of the JD(U) has been elected deputy chairman of the Rajya Sabha. Singh's name was proposed by BJP MP JP Nadda.
