The Congress on Friday appointed senior party leader and Central Working Committee member Girish Chodankar as the new president of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC), replacing Amit Patkar in a key organisational reshuffle ahead of upcoming political challenges in the state.According to agency reports, the appointment was announced through an order issued by Congress General Secretary K C Venugopal. Chodankar, a former Goa Congress chief, currently serves as the All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge for Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.Alongside the leadership change, the party also announced a series of appointments aimed at strengthening its organisational structure in Goa.

Senior leaders M K Shaikh, Altone D'Costa and Carlos Alvares Ferreira have been appointed as working presidents of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee. Datta D Naik has been named the party's state treasurer.The Congress also constituted key committees to streamline its political and electoral strategy in the state. Leader of Opposition in the Goa Assembly Yuri Alemao has been appointed chairman of the state Congress campaign committee, while Lok Sabha MP Viriato Fernandes will head the party's manifesto committee.Former Member of Parliament Francisco Sardinha has been named chairperson of the coordination committee, with GPCC Vice President Sunil Kawthankar appointed as its co-chairperson.
The appointments are part of the Congress' efforts to revamp its state unit and strengthen the party's organisational network in Goa. Chodankar's return as state president is expected to provide experienced leadership as the party prepares for future electoral battles and seeks to expand its political footprint in the coastal state.Chodankar had previously served as the Goa Congress chief and is considered a seasoned organisational leader within the party. His appointment comes at a time when the Congress is focusing on reinforcing its state units and improving coordination between the party's organisational and legislative wings.
