Former Andhra Pradesh minister and TDP leader Bhuma Akhila Priya was on Wednesday arrested in connection with the kidnapping of a former badminton player and his two brothers from Hyderabad over a land dispute. Other accused in the case are her husband Bhargav Ram and AV Subba Reddy, a close associate of her father and senior TDP leader Bhuma Nagi Reddy.
According to the police, the brothers were kidnapped by a group of 10-15 men who came to their Hyderabad house in the evening on Tuesday. They posed as Income Tax officers, and even showed a fake warrant."The kidnappers said they were there to conduct raids and that they had a warrant. They then took the brothers away; they had come in three vehicles," said the Telangana Excise Minister Srinivas Goud.
Bhuma Akhila Priya was arrested from her residence at Kukatpally and she is in police custody, the Hyderabad police chief said. Efforts were on nab the others involved in the case who are absconding.Police said preliminary investigation revealed that the accused including Bhuma Akhila Priya, her husband and others allegedly planned, conspired, executed the kidnappingfollowing a dispute over a land located at Hafeezpet in Hyderabad, Akhila Priya served as a Tourism minister in the Telugu Desam government in Andhra Pradesh.
