Union Home Minister Amit Shah has said that the Congress is against Ambedkar and his ideals. Shah on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on the Congress during a press conference in Delhi, accusing the opposition party of distorting remarks made in Parliament and adopting an anti-Ambedkar stance.Responding to row over remarks he made in Rajya Sabha during the Constitution debate, Amit Shah said, "My statements were misrepresented. Congress spreads fake news. I can never speak against Ambedkar ji." "Every word of my speech is factual and taken from history. That is why they are making such efforts by editing my speech and giving it a wrong meaning," he said.

"The Congress disrespected the Army and women, and even broke up the country and gave it to foreign powers. When this truth was uncovered... they distorted facts and misled people," he said. Amit Shah said he had no intention of quitting. "Kharge is asking for my resignation. If it will make him happy, I will.. but it won't end his problems. He will have to sit in the same place (in the opposition) for 15 years." When asked if the BJP will take legal action against opposition, Amit Shah says, "The BJP will examine all legal options. Whatever legal action can be taken inside and outside Parliament, all possibilities will be considered."
The BJP leader said Congress governments never built a memorial for Ambedkar; whereas the BJP developed many sites dedicated to him. "When the discussion was going on in the parliament, it was proved how the Congress opposed Baba Saheb Ambedkar. How the Congress tried to make fun of Baba Saheb even after his death... As far as giving Bharat Ratna is concerned, Congress leaders have given Bharat Ratna to themselves many times. Nehru gave the Bharat Ratna to himself in 1955, and Indira Gandhi gave the Bharat Ratna to herself in 1971. Baba Saheb got the Bharat Ratna in 1990 when the Congress party was not in power and there was a government supported by the Bharatiya Janata Party… Nehru's hatred towards Ambedkar is well known," he added. Shah alleged that Kharge was pressurised by Rahul Gandhi to join 'malicious' campaign against me.
