Senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday termed the exit of 12 party legislators in Meghalaya and moving on to the Trinamool Congress as a conspiracy. The Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha said the party leadership, including Sonia and Rahul Gandhi, were looking into the matter. They will take a decision. Kharge said despite all latest developments the Opposition would try and fight unitedly in Parliament against the Narendra Modi-led government.
Meanwhile, Mukul Sangma, who and 11 other Maghalaya Congress MLAs swithed over toTMC, said that it all started after the Central leadership picked Vincent Pala as the chief of the party's state unit, "There has to be equilibrium in democracy. We need an effective opposition," Sangma said. "We have raised this with the leadership in Delhi. We have made many trips to Delhi, but nothing happened.,While looking for options for an opposition space, I ended up meeting my good friend Prashant Kishor, whom we all know, who can make a difference. I'm very happy to disclose, when we interacted, we shared the same objective - interest of the people supersede everything," Sangma said.
