BJP shares letter by Priyanka after Rana's forced to buy painting claim

BJP has shared a letter purportedly written by Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi that confirms whether Rana Kapoor bought an MF Husain painting for Rs 2 crore. Party's National Spokesperson RP Singh on Sunday shared a letter signed by Priyanka Gandhi, thanking Rana Kapoor for purchasing a portrait of Rajiv Gandhi, painted by MF Husain on twitter. "I acknowledge receipt of your letter as well as your payment of Rs 2 crore representing the full and final payment towards subject painting. I trust you are aware of the historical value of this work and will ensure its placement in an environment that befits its stature," the letter read.

In a statement to the Enforcement Directorate, Yes Bank co-founder Rana Kapoor had claimed that he was forced to buy a painting from Priyanka Gandhi and the proceeds of the sale were used for the medical treatment of Congress president Sonia Gandhi in New York. It is sad that the painting was the property of Congress and not Priyanka Gandhi, but still, it was sold.

Union minister and BJP leader Anurag Thakur on Sunday slammed the Congress over Yes Bank promoter Rana Kapoor's allegations against the grand old party, demanding "answers”. The Union minister, however, said “it is not the first time such an allegation was made against the Congress”. He alleged that the party's “only job was to sell the country." The Congress has rubbished Kapoor's allegations. Senior Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi accused the BJP of “keeping the pot boiling without any basis.”“This man makes allegations against dead people and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) just wants to keep the pot boiling,” he said at a press conference. “2010 transaction is related to a person who is behind bars for years. 20 to 30 bail applications have been rejected, this man makes allegations against dead people and BJP just wants to keep the pot boiling. Neither Deora Saab is alive nor Ahmed Patel is alive to deny,” Singhvi added.
