The BJP has fielded lawyer Priyanka Tibrewal against Mamata Banerjee in the Bhabanipur bypolls on September 30. She is vice president of the party’s youth wing in West Bengal.Priyanka Tibrewal is a practising lawyer at the Calcutta High Court and Supreme Court. She has been fighting the West Bengal post-poll violence case in court.She joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2014.Ms Tibrewal was brought into the party by MP Babul Supriyo to whom she was a legal advisor. BJP has also announced candidates for other remainig two seats. Milan Ghoah will be party's candidta from tne Samserganj constituency while Sujit Das has been fielded from the Jangipur constituency.
Priyanka Tibrewal unsuccesfully contested the West Bengal assembly elections earlier this year from the Entally seat on a BJP ticket. She lost to TMC's Swarna Kamal Saha by 58,257 votes. She played an instrumental role in the court's order for a CBI investigation into cases of post-poll violence in West Bengal. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief needs to win this bye-election to retain her chief ministerial post. While the bye-poll is scheduled on September 30, the counting will be held on October 3. Congress has already decided not to field the party candidate against Mamta Banerjee.
