The Congress Working Committee on Monday called for an "immediate cease-fire" between the Israeli forces and the Hamas militant group and said it has a long-standing support "for the rights of the Palestinian people to land, self-government and to live with dignity and respect"."The CWC calls for an immediate cease-fire and for negotiations to begin on all outstanding issues including the imperative issues that have given rise to the present conflict," it said in a statement.This comes a day after the party said it "condemns the brutal attacks on the people of Israel". Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said his party has always believed that the legitimate aspirations of the people of Palestine must be fulfilled through dialogue while ensuring the national security concerns of Israelis.
Addressing the CWC, president Mallikarjuna Kharge said,"In 2024, we must strive to establish a government that addresses these grave challenges and cater to the marginalized, youth, women, farmers, and laborers. Simultaneously, we must address pressing issues like inflation and unemployment while remaining attuned to the people's voices." We have also demanded a nationwide Caste-based Census, crucial for effective government programs and welfare schemes, he said.Later addressing the mdia, Rahul Gandhi said manyparties of INDIA alliance favour cast based cencus.
