Colourful historica 414th.Mysuru Vijayadashsmi Jamboo Savari Dasara procession marking the conclusion of 10 day navaratri festival on Tuesday witnessed by over 10 lakh enthusiasts. Goddess Chamundeshwari idol in 750 KG golden howda was carried on by elephant Abimanyu for the forth consecutive year along with a team of other 14 elephants, specially trained for the occasion. The day signifies the elimination of demon Mahishsaura by mother goddess Chamundeshwari. A two KM long procession was kick started by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah by offering jasmine flowers to Nandi dwaja and later offering floral tributes to Goddess Chamundeshwari idol seated in golden chariot.

The procession included many folk tropes performing local dances and about 50 tableaus from 31 districts of Karnataka. They included Male Mahadeshwara hill tableau from Chamarajanagar and world famous temples of Belur, Halebeedu and Shravanbelagola. People watched this historical fete of of over 4 centuries with cheers. This dasara procession started during the period of Vijayanagara Kingdom. The jamboo savari started from palace to bannimantap on a 5 km entourage. People gathered all along the route and enjoyed the colourful procession from 1pm to 8pm.
Speaking to media, CM said this is people's festival, celebrated in a simple way traditionally, due to the drought situation in the state. He prayed for the early rains to overcome this drought. Tourists world over has arrived in Mysuru for participating in this cultural heritage but could not made pomp and gaiety because of drought, he relented.

Earlier in the day an air show was also arranged by the ministry of defence for the first time. According to an official statement issued by the CM's office CM Siddaramaiah thanked Defence Minister Rajnath Singh for his immediate response to organising the air show. "The air show was truly impressive, and I must credit Defence Minister Rajnath Singh for his immediate response to my discussions during my recent visit to Delhi. Thanks to his prompt action, today's air show was a grand success, delighting the people. Happy Vijayadashami Ayudha Puja to the entire nation," the statement said, quoting the Karnataka CM.
