A Naxalite woman identified as Gujja Sodhi was seriously injured after an improvised explosive device (IED) explosion in forest area of Bijapur district in Chhattisgarh. The injured was rushed to district hospital by police personnel and her condition was reported to be stable. According to official release, the injured woman has been identified as Gujja Sodhi, a long-time member of the banned Maoist organisation’s Madded area committee. Preliminary reports suggest that Sodhi and her associates were planting the IED to target security personnel when it accidentally detonated, leaving her wounded. Her colleagues reportedly took away her 12-bore firearm and fled the scene, abandoning her in the forest.
Superintendent of Police, Bijapur, Dr Jitendra Yadav, confirmed the severity of the injuries. Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police, Bastar Range, Sundarraj Pattlingam, while making a strong pitch to give up arms by Naxalite and surrender also strongly condemned the inhuman behaviour of her Maoist associates. “This incident lays bare the heartless mindset of the Maoist leadership, who exploit innocent youths for their violent agenda and abandon them when injured or helpless,” he said.Officials highlighted that the rescue by villagers and the humane conduct of the security forces reflect growing trust between local communities and law enforcement, as well as ongoing efforts towards peace and development in Bastar. Authorities urged local Maoist cadres to recognise the exploitative nature of the organisation and consider shunning violence to join the social mainstream.According to information, since January last year, security forces have intensified anti-Naxalite operations, resulting in over 450 Naxalites being neutralised, mostly in the Bastar region. Investigations into the incident are currently underway.
