During an Industry Interaction meet in Dehradun, several significant Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed establishing strategic partnerships to boost Uttarakhand’s agricultural export landscape. Notable agreements included:
●House of Himalayas Ltd. and Lulu Group International: This MoU focuses on promoting and exporting high-quality agricultural and processed food products from the Himalayan region to international markets via Lulu Hypermarket’s extensive retail network. This collaboration aims to enhance the livelihoods of local farmers and artisans in Uttarakhand.
●House of Himalayas Ltd. and Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP): This partnership is designed to improve the packaging standards for Uttarakhand’s agricultural produce to meet international demand and enhance product visibility.
●House of Himalayas Ltd. and Spices Board: The agreement promotes Uttarakhand’s indigenous spices under the "House of Himalayas" brand. The initiative focuses on sustainable development, women empowerment, and improving the quality of spice production.
●State Horticulture Mission and Spices Board: This MoU will drive the cultivation of large cardamom and other spices in Uttarakhand, with an emphasis on increasing export potential.
The meeting was hosted by the department of commerce and Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal was the Chief Guest for the event.This Industry Interaction meet aimed at broadening India’s export base and enhancing the global competitiveness of Uttarakhand’s industries. The primary objective was to unlock the export potential of Uttarakhand across multiple sectors, fostering dialogue and partnerships that would drive export growth and global trade, stated official release.
The meet, which was held on Wednesday, October 9, highlighted Uttarakhand’s strategic advantages in agri-business and processed food sectors, with discussions focusing on the state's rich agro-climatic resources and its potential to boost India's agricultural exports. Participants emphasized the importance of government support through policy interventions, infrastructure development, and initiatives to ensure sustainable growth in Uttarakhand’s export ecosystem.The event facilitated a productive dialogue between senior government officials and industry leaders, aligning their efforts to promote export growth in sectors such as organic agriculture, horticulture, processed foods, and traditional handicrafts. Key areas for policy intervention, capacity building, and government support were identified to strengthen Uttarakhand's presence in global markets. Discussions also focused on the importance of global standards and certifications to enhance the quality and competitiveness of Uttarakhand’s products, helping exporters meet international demands, according to information.
Additionally, in a significant step to empower Uttarakhand’s farming community, the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) initiated the implementation of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) certification for over 350 farmers. This move will help farmers meet global standards and export quality agricultural products to the European Union, UK, and other international markets.
The meet attracted over 25 organizations from various sectors, showcasing a wide range of products and innovations. This event builds on earlier initiatives, such as the International Conclave Cum Buyer-Seller Meet, and positions Uttarakhand as a future leader in India’s growing export efforts, stated release.
