Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami ran in the “Run for Yoga” at Police Lines, Dehradun on Friday and told young people to make yoga a daily habit. The event was held two days ahead of tthe International Day of Yoga on June 21.Dhami interacted with the crowd, after the run. He said this was not just about fitness. “Yoga is not only exercise. It brings the body, mind and soul together. It helps us face stress and problems in daily life,” he said.Dhami said Uttarakhand has long been known for yoga, meditation and spirituality. The hills, rivers and calm places here still draw people who want peace and wellness.

CM also highlighted how yoga has gained traction accross the globe.The International Day of Yoga is celebrated on June 21 by millions of people in more than 190 countries.The Chief Minister said rising stress, depression and lifestyle diseases make yoga more useful today. He asked young people to add yoga and movement to their everyday routine. “A healthy, disciplined youth will make a strong state and a strong nation,” he said.
Dhami said the state wants Uttarakhand to become a global centre for yoga, Ayurveda, wellness and naturopathy. Under the state’s Yoga Policy, the government is strengthening yoga and meditation centres, by giving adequate comphrehensive courses to trained teachers and creating jobs in the wellness sector.CM further appealed to the citizens to yoga as a way of life and help build a healthier, drug-free society.Across India, this year ,yoga events are based on “Yoga for Healthy Ageing”.The similar programmes are also being organised at the Indian mission abroad to mark the International Yoga Day celebrations.
