In a sudden expansion, chief minister Yogi Aaditya Nath on Sunday included seven new faceds in his council of ministers. Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel admistered the oath to newly inducted MLAs as ministers. Former Congress leader Jitin Prasada the most high-profile new face in the ruling BJP government.BJP leaders Paltu Ram, Chhatarpal Gangwar, Sangeeta Balwant Bind, Dharamveer Prajapati, Sanjeev Kumar Gaur and Dinesh Khatik took oath as MoS.
The expansion focused on unrepresented castes and political parties. This is the third expansion and turn coats and first time MLAs have been accomodated in view of social engineering. Yogi Adityanath's Cabinet can only include seven new faces as there are already 53 ministers in the UP. The assembly elections in UP are schedule in February- March next year.
Commenting on the Cabinet expansion, Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav said, "It won't help BJP. Even if there are a few new faces, the government ultimately is of BJP...and the people have made up their mind to change the government". Yadav called the inductions a "hoax", and accused the BJP of paying lip service to marginalised communities by including them in the cabinet just before the election.
