US strikes Iran's Larak Island, Tehran retaliates against Jordan base

US forces struck Iranian rocket launchers on the Strait of Hormuz in their first military action in a month on Sunday, breaking a lull in fighting during an intermittent war that has lasted more than six months. Iran swiftly vowed to retaliate for what it called a deadly attack. As per reports, the US has struck Iranian military targets on Larak Island over what Washington said was a threat to deploy sea mines in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran also retaliated, with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps saying it launched ballistic missile attacks on US bases in Jordan in response to the US strike, according to Iranian media. Iran's Revolutionary Guards said that US strikes on an island in the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday had left dead and wounded and promised reprisals.
Jordan's army said Monday it had intercepted eight missiles, shortly after Iran's Revolutionary Guards said they had attacked US military targets in the Washington-allied kingdom. The Larak Island operation marked the first US military action against Iran in more than a month. The US last launched missiles at Iranian targets in late July. US Central Command says its forces have redirected 83 commercial vessels, disabled three and boarded two as of August 30 to enforce Washington’s blockade of Iran.
