US resumes air strikes on Iran after Tehran Iran hits US in Jordan

The United States on Thursday resumed air strikes on targets inside Iran, ending a brief pause in military operations, according to an Axios report that cited a senior US official. US Central Command (CENTCOM) later confirmed the operation, describing the strikes as a direct response to Iran's attempted missile attacks on American forces in the Middle East. "U.S. forces began launching strikes against Iran at 8 p.m. ET today. The strikes are a powerful response to yesterday's attempted Iranian attacks on U.S. forces based in the Middle East," CENTCOM said in a post on X.
According to infrmation, explosions were reported in Qeshm Island, Bandar Abbas, Bushehr and Sirik, among other locations in Iran, after Axios reported that a US official said the US military was conducting air strikes in the country. The cause of the explosions and the targets involved were not immediately clear.
Earlier,Iran's ballistic missile strike on US forces in Jordan and its seizure of three oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz have dealt a fresh blow to efforts to preserve last month's Iran-US understanding. After Iran fired several ballistic missiles toward a US military base in Jordan early Wednesday Tehran time, US President Donald Trump vowed to hit back hard. The naval arm of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced it had struck and detained three "offending" oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz.
The renewed US strikes represent a significant escalation in tensions between Washington and Tehran at a time when indirect diplomatic contacts are reportedly continuing through regional mediators.
