Protests are escalating across the USA to demand a fair count of votes as several states await tallies to determine whowill win the 2020 Presidential election. New York police have arrested at least 30 people in retaliation to protest. Several cities in the United States saw protests and rallies taken out by both sets of supporters. While Trump supporters - backed by the President’s claims of voter fraud - protested across ballot-counting centres against counting of votes, Biden’s supporters sensing they might be close to winning the race took to streets demanding that every vote be counted.
As Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden maintains his lead over Donald Trump after the gains in battleground states of Georgia and Pennsylvania, Trump has warned Biden against “wrongfully" claiming the presidency. "Joe Biden should not wrongfully claim the office of the President. I could make that claim also. Legal proceedings are just now beginning!” Trump said in a tweet.Trump has challenged the authenticity of the elections, alleging massive voter fraud and electoral malpractice. In another tweet, Trump said his leads in all of these states were significant on election night but suddenly started vanishing. He asserted that the lead would come back once the legal proceedings move forward.
Democrats Joe Biden says the US election result is a mandate on Covid, economy, climate change, and systemic racism that has plagued the nation. Joe Biden says the Covid-19 pandemic is getting more worrisome and it is time for the US to rebuild the economy. Addressing his supporters, Biden said he is on track to win over 300 electoral votes. Biden also told his supporters that the outcome is clear on who is winning the race. He said, “We do not have a final declaration but the numbers tell us a clear and convincing story. We are going to win this race.”According to an AP tally, Joe Biden is at 264 at the moment with Trump trailing at 214 electoral votes.
