In a major gold smuggling bust, Delhi airport authorities intercepted an American passenger carrying 115 gold bars hidden inside his pants and a specially designed belt.
The seized gold weighs 3.565 kilograms and is valued at around Rs 5.6 crore. Officials confirmed that the bars are 24-karat gold with 999.9 fineness. The passenger, who arrived from San Francisco, was arrested under the Customs Act, and the gold was immediately confiscated.
Customs and Air Intelligence officials said the case highlights their vigilance against sophisticated smuggling methods. Investigations are ongoing to identify the local contacts and buyers involved in this high-value international smuggling operation.
